Why Patients Consider Puerto Vallarta for IVF

Puerto Vallarta is a small fertility market with big-city air access. Lic. Gustavo Díaz Ordaz International (PVR) has direct flights from many US and Canadian cities, which is unusual for a city its size. The drive from the airport to clinics is 15–30 minutes.

The appeal is the stay. A Pacific resort town with lodging at every price point is a calmer place to spend a stimulation phase than a megacity. It is also one of the best-connected Mexican destinations for Canadian patients, who face long public waitlists and high private prices at home.

The trade-off is choice. We list one IVF clinic here, compared with 9 in Cancún and 55 in Mexico City. So the real question for most patients isn't "which Puerto Vallarta clinic?" but "this clinic, or a bigger fertility city?"

The Puerto Vallarta Clinic We List

LIV Fertility Center describes itself as the first and only dedicated IVF clinic in Puerto Vallarta. Here is what its listing states.

LocationAbout 11.7 km (7 miles) from PVR, roughly 20 minutes by car
LanguagesSpanish and English; English-speaking staff confirmed
TreatmentsIVF, Mini IVF, IUI, ICSI, egg donation, sperm donation, egg and embryo freezing, PGT-A, oncofertility
PhysiciansIncludes Dr. Edna Amaro (reproductive endocrinology and infertility); the clinic cites over 40 years of combined experience across its specialists
Published priceNone — request pricing. The clinic says costs run about 65% below the US and Canada
COFEPRIS on file with usNot yet verified
Patient supportFree virtual consults, airport transport, list of nearby lodging, named coordinators
OtherSays it has no waiting list, welcomes LGBTQ+ patients, and that over 70% of its patients had a failed IVF elsewhere

On the four signals this directory scores every clinic on — COFEPRIS accreditation on file, a published starting price, confirmed English-speaking staff, and a street address — LIV scores 2 out of 5. It earns the English and address points; it has no COFEPRIS registration on file with us and publishes no price. That is a measure of what the clinic has documented publicly, not a judgement on its lab. For how that scoring works across the country, see Best IVF Clinics in Mexico.

The listing also describes MicroSort® sex selection, a service the clinic says is unavailable in the US and Canada and claims is up to 87% accurate. That accuracy figure is the clinic's own. If sex selection matters to you, ask for the underlying data and the clinic's policies in writing.

We have not yet confirmed LIV's COFEPRIS registration. That does not mean it lacks one; ask the clinic for the number before you book, as you would with any clinic.

Reading a Clinic's Success Rates

LIV publishes more outcome detail than most Mexican clinics. Its listing reports the 2025 figures below. Every one of them is reported by the clinic and has not been independently verified by us or by any Mexican regulator — Mexico has no mandatory outcome reporting comparable to the US SART database, so there is no public source to check them against.

Measure (2025, clinic-reported) Rate
Fertilization rate84.3%
IVF with own eggs, age 34 and under68.8%
IVF with PGT-A66.7%
IVF with donor eggs, age 45 and under66.1%
Live birth rate64.8%
Blastocyst rate60.1%

Those numbers are a starting point for a conversation, not a finished comparison. Ask three things about each one: what counts as success (positive test, clinical pregnancy or live birth), what the denominator is (per retrieval, per transfer or per patient), and how many cycles it covers. A 64.8% live birth rate means something very different per transfer than per retrieval.

The fertilization and blastocyst rates are the most useful for comparing labs, because they depend less on patient age. Ask any other clinic you're considering for the same two figures. For the full method, see IVF Success Rates in Mexico: How to Read the Numbers.

Puerto Vallarta or Guadalajara?

Guadalajara is the nearest large fertility market: Mexico's second city, about an hour's flight or 4.5–5 hours by road, with 13 clinics we list. See Best IVF Clinics in Guadalajara.

  • Choose Puerto Vallarta if you want a calm stay, you have a direct flight to PVR, your case is straightforward or you've had failed cycles and want an individualized protocol, and you're satisfied after a consult with LIV's physicians.
  • Choose Guadalajara if you want to compare several clinics in person, you need a specialized service (surrogacy, complex genetics, andrology), or price shopping across a larger market matters most.
  • Choose Mexico City if your case is complex: recurrent loss, known genetic conditions, or multiple failed transfers with no clear cause. See Best IVF Clinics in Mexico City.

Some patients combine them: treatment in Guadalajara, recovery on the coast.

Red Flags That Rule a Clinic Out

These apply in Puerto Vallarta and anywhere else.

  • It won't give you its COFEPRIS registration number.
  • Its success rates have no age breakdown or definition.
  • It guarantees a baby.
  • It asks for a large deposit before you've spoken with the physician.
  • You can never reach the doctor, only a coordinator.
  • IVF is offered by a med-spa or cosmetic clinic.
  • A broker or agent is taking a referral fee to send you there.

How to Evaluate Your Options

  1. Book LIV's free virtual consult and send your records first.
  2. Ask for the COFEPRIS number and check whether the clinic appears on REDLARA's member list.
  3. Request an itemized written quote, with medications priced separately.
  4. Ask for the definitions behind each success rate — numerator, denominator, and cycle count.
  5. Get a comparison quote from two Guadalajara clinics so you know what the alternative costs.
  6. Confirm remote monitoring with your local lab. See remote monitoring for IVF in Mexico.
  7. Decide, then book travel with refundable fares.

Questions to Ask Before You Commit

  • What is your COFEPRIS registration number?
  • Are your success rates per retrieval or per transfer, and do they measure live births?
  • How many IVF cycles did your lab run in 2025?
  • Who performs my retrieval and transfer?
  • Which hospital handles complications?
  • What does the quote exclude?
  • Where are egg donors recruited, and how are they screened?
  • What are storage fees, and can embryos be shipped elsewhere?

Travel Logistics

  • Flights: direct service to PVR from many US and Canadian cities.
  • Airport to clinic: about 20 minutes to LIV; 15–30 minutes to most of the city.
  • Typical stays: 4–6 days for a retrieval with remote monitoring, 2–4 days for a frozen transfer, 10–14 days for a full cycle on-site.
  • Where to stay: the clinic can send a list of nearby lodging. Staying close to the clinic beats staying on the beach during stimulation.
  • Season: December to April is peak season, with higher hotel prices. Hurricane season runs June to November; buy refundable fares.
  • Documents: a valid passport. US and Canadian citizens don't need a visa for short stays.
